This artwork is from La Galerie agreable du Monde a monumental 66 part atlas published by Pieter van der Aa in Leiden from 1724 to 1729. It's considered the largest atlas ever published and possibly the costliest and comprehensive geographical work ever produced. The volume contained plates that generally consist of views, maps, and street plans, reissues of maps by the principal cities including Beijing, Nanjing, Guangdong, and Tianjin; costume plates, flags, court ceremonies, funeral rites, animals, Chinese ships, in addition to Van der Aa's own maps prepared specifically for this interesting atlas.
The print represents a view of the city of Tongling: in the foreground boats along the river and on the background the little village and the mountain that surround it.
