Description

He participated brilliantly in the Russian, Saxon and French campaigns. He took an active part in the Spanish Expedition (1823). As Minister of War, he commanded the Algiers expedition, whose success earned him the title of Marshal of France (1830). He refused to swear an oath to Louis-Philippe, and was involved in the Duchesse de Berry’s attempt to overthrow the Vendée (1832). Sentenced to death in absentia, he went into exile and returned to France after the armistice of 1840.

Comte de Bourmont warmly intervenes on behalf of a lieutenant of the 38th infantry regt. who has committed a serious offence (bringing a girl into his tent at the St. Omer camp).
