HISTORY - AUMALE Henri Eugène (1822 - 1897) - Autograph letter signed - France
Description
Son of King Louis-Philippe. A general and historian, his name is linked to the conquest of Algeria. He wanted to return to France for the 1870 war, but Napoleon III refused. In 1871, after the fall of the Emperor, he returned to the government. He was proscribed again from 1883 to 1886. He bequeathed his Chantilly estate to the Institut. Academie française in 1871.
