HISTORY - MASARYK Tomas Garrigue (1850 - 1937) - Document signed - Czech Republic
Description
Despite his poverty, he tried an apprenticeship as a locksmith, then as a blacksmith. Fluent in several languages, by the age of 15 he was tutoring children from wealthy families. One of these families paid for him to study philosophy. In 1877, he met Charlotte Garrigue, the daughter of an American merchant. He married and added her name to his own. By 1881, he was teaching and becoming politically active. During the 1st World War, he had to leave his country and settled in Geneva, but his opinions forced him to move to London, from where he travelled to Paris, where he met Benès. He moved to the USA and, with the fall of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, became President of the Republic.
Appointment of the Czechoslovak Consul in Casablanca, Prague, 30.10.1926 signed by Masaryk and Benès. Included. Included: Autograph letter signed dated 12.01.1948 by Masaryk’s stepson.
