SCIENCE AND MEDICINE - PICCARD Auguste (1884 - 1962) - Autograph letter signed
Studied physics and obtained a doctorate in natural sciences at the EPFZ. He is better known than his brother Jean in the field of high altitude. With a young assistant, he set a new altitude record at 51,775 ft (15,785 m) on 27.05.1931 in Augsburg (D). On 18.08.1932, he set a new record of 53,152 ft (16,200 m).
