Description

Studied medicine in Lausanne, Paris and Berlin. In 1889, he became a French citizen. He worked at the Pasteur Institute, then in Indochina, where he set up a laboratory in 1895. It was he who discovered the plague bacillus. He set up an agricultural station and introduced rubber cultivation, the first crop of which was bought by Michelin. He received numerous awards and decorations.
Autograph letter signed Paris, 10.06.1903, to his sister :”…ma voiture n’est toujours pas prête. J’ai bien fait de ne pas l’attendre pour mon voyage en Suisse…”.
