Trained by his mother until he went to the Junior School in Nicosia. At 15 he went to Dauntsey's. From 1964 to 1967 he was at Hull University where he obtained a BSc and then a PhD in Mathematics at Warwick University. His academic career has spanned the globe. He is best known for his work on catastrophe theory.
