SCIENCE AND MEDICINE - CHEVREUL Eugène Michel (1786 - 1889) - Autograph letter signed

He worked as a chemist in Nicolas Vauquelin's factory and, in 1918, became a preparator for Vauquelin's course at the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle. He began by studying dyes, then organic substances, while his colleagues were only interested in minerals. In 1823, he published his chemical research on animal fats. In 1824, he was appointed professor of chemistry and director of the Gobelins establishments, and took a particular interest in dyes. He was admitted to the Académie des Sciences in 1826.
