Description

He studied organic chemistry and became an aeronautical engineer, obtaining a doctorate in natural sciences at the EPFZ. Like his twin brother Auguste, he was interested in high altitude. In 1926, he emigrated to the United States and, with his wife, climbed to 59,979 ft (17,672 m) on 23 October 1934 in Dearborn, Michigan. He retired in 1952.
