After serving in the Bavarian and Dutch armies, in 1793 he entered French service with the rank of lieutenant-general. In 1791, he was awarded the marshal's baton.
Document signed, dated Haguenau, 21.10.1791 to Louis XVI. He begs Louis XVI to grant his appointment as Second lieutenant to the Chief quartermaster Denis Nicolas, appointed by an absolute majority by the officers of the 9th Regt. cavalry, in accordance with the decrees of the National Assembly.
