Description
A child prodigy, he played Beethoven to perfection at the age of 11 in New York’s Carnegie Hall. Violinist, then conductor, he was one of the great musicians of his century. He was also committed to human rights. In 1989, he cancelled a tour of China to protest against the repression of students in that country.
