He studied at the Franz Liszt Royal School of Music with, among others, Zoltan Kodaly. After the war, he went to South America, then to the United States where he played as soloist with the Chamber Orchestra of the University of Oklahoma. In 1956 he became a member of the Hungarian String Quartet, with whom he played for 16 years. In 1972, he became professor of cello at the University of Illinois.
