Lot 760 · The Langer Collection · 29 April 2024
Sold for £240
Studied at the Lyceum of Music in Bologna, which he interrupted to compose an opera. In 1923, he undertook a tour of England that was a huge success. It was then that he was drawn to Paris, where he composed Guillaume Tell with a French text that was exceptional, but marked the end of his career. In fact, he did not compose again during the 38 years he had left to live.
Manuscript signed "G. Rossini", Paris, March 2, 1862, 1 p. oblong in-8°, text partly printed. Beautiful piece. Received a letter addressed to him by order, from the office of the Minister of Finance.
