First military service during the 30 Years' War. In 1630, he became Marshal of France. He led the royal troops. He had no political ambitions, but Louis XIV took his advice very seriously. In 1674, he forced the Imperials back across the Rhine. He was killed by a cannonball.
Document signed dated Camp de Wast, 26.09.1657. Safeguard for the village of Eklesberg, and expressly forbidden to lodge, pillage, forage, take or raise anything there under penalty of exemplary punishment:”…défendons très expressément à tous ceux qui sont sous notre charge …". 1 p. In-folio obl.
