A pupil of Recha in Paris and a friend of the most famous theatre musicians of his time, he composed mainly for the stage, leaving an abundant body of work from which two operas stand out: Alessandra Stradella (1844) and Martha, which was performed in Vienna on 25.11.1847, a lyrical drama of romantic inspiration that was popular for a long time.
"Table thématique de l'Esclave ou Camoëns, opéra comique en 1 acte, paroles de Mr. de St. Georges, musique par F. de Flotow", including 14 fragments of staff lines notated by the composer and giving the beginning of the Ouverture and the various arias of the work (12 pieces numbered 1 to 7 with bis and ter numbers).
