He saw his first battle at Laon in 1594 and was wounded during the capture of Saint Jean d'Angely in 1621. In 1622, he was promoted to Marshal of France. In 1626, he inherited the title Duc de Lesdiguîères from his father-in-law. In 1633, he was ambassador to Rome, then to Venice in 1636. He fought in the Italian campaigns from 1630 to 1637 and died at the siege of Crema.
Letter signed, dated 9 Janvier 1619: He warns his correspondent that if Marshal d'Estrees needs his company of men-at-arms, to accompany the war munitions that he is taking to Provence, he will have to give it to him without difficulty.“…Ce mot pour vous avertir que si Monsieur le Maréchal Destrée (…) besoin de ma compagnie de gendarmes pour faire conduire en sûreté des munitions de guerre qu'il emmenera avec lui en Provence…”. 1 p.
