LITERATURE - TAINE Hippolyte (1828 - 1893) - Autograph letters signed

Graduated first from the Ecole Normale and obtained a doctorate in law from Oxford University. In 1856, he published a work criticising the philosophy taught at university. In 1864, he was appointed professor of art history and aesthetics at the Beaux Arts. He was elected to the Académie française in 1878.
Four beautiful autograph letters signed addressed from Châtenay in 1872 to Paul Langer Senior. In the fourth letter: "... quant à vous, vous êtes du Havre, vous parlez devant des compatriotes, vous allez traiter de l'initiative individuelle …". 6 pp. in-8.
