Lot 553 · The Langer Collection · 29 April 2024
Studied literature at secondary school but failed the second part of his baccalaureate. After his military service, he joined the worship department of the Ministry of the Interior. With friends, he founded Paris moderne under the pseudonym Georges Courteline. He wrote columns for several magazines and published several works. In 1891, he published his first play: Lidoire, followed by several others, all with great success. In 1925, he had his right leg amputated, and in 1929 his left. He died a few days later.
Autograph letter signed dated 13.08.1901 by Sylvain Pitt (1860-1919).
