A maudlin and naïve simplifier of Rousseau's ideas, he is best known for his colourful idyll Paul et Virginie, which popularised the cultural and poetic themes at the root of Romanticism.
Autograph manuscript s.l.n.d. 1 p. 1/3 in-folio, some erasures and passages added between lines. Beautiful piece titled “Journey to the Amazon”. Harmonie de la terre et de l’eau: "The Ocean has covered the globe, the Ocean has cut out its promontories from North to South and from South to North.. the Ocean is the blood of the earth, it forms the limestone stones, like fresh water forms wood, plants, etc., etc.
