Studied law and political science in Paris and at the Institut des Hautes Etudes Internationales in Geneva. From 1945 to 1958 he was a diplomat in Paris; since 1948 he has also represented Switzerland at the OECD and the ECSC. Dr. h.c. of the universities of Neuchâtel and Geneva.
