In 1907, he entered the Toledo military academy. In 1912, he was sent to Spanish Morocco. In 1916, he was promoted to Major. By the age of 30, he was a lieutenant colonel, and in 1926 the youngest brigadier general in Europe. After the right-wing triumph in the 1933 elections, he was promoted to major general. In 1934, he crushed the Asturias revolution. With the victory of the Popular Front, he was sent to the Canary Islands. In 1938, he assumed the title of Caudillo of Spain and all powers. He felt solely responsible before God and History. This marked the beginning of 37 years of dictatorship. In 1974, he fell ill and died the following year.
