Key figure in the American administration under Roosevelt and Truman. A brilliant lawyer, he was known for his good judgement and was very influential with the presidents. During the war, he made a major contribution to US domestic financial policy, and after the war he was an adviser to the State Department and a member of the US delegation to the UN.
Autograph letter signed dated 26.03.1948: ”… Je ne suis malheureusement pas celui que vous pensiez rencontrer…”.
