3rd Viscount Palmerston. He entered the House of Commons in 1807 as a Tory MP but moved closer to the Whigs. He was Secretary of War, then Foreign Secretary and finally Home Secretary. He distinguished himself by his firm and uncompromising attitude. He was Prime Minister from 1855 to 1858 and from 1859 to 1865.
