Educated at Eton and Balliol College, Oxford, he was wounded three times in the First World War. After a few years in the family business, in 1942 he was resident minister in Morocco. In 1955, he was Chancellor of the Exchequer and after Suèz, the Queen asked him to form a new government. In 1963, he resigned for health reasons and wrote his memoirs.
Typed letter signed, dated 08.11.1966, thanking him for sending the Journal de Nyon.
