Elected as a Conservative MP, he switched to the Liberal Party and was re-elected Conservative in 1924. In 1911, he became First Lord of the Admiralty. In 1916, he was part of Lloyd George's coalition government. He was Prime Minister from 1940 to 1954, with an interruption from 1945 to 1951.
