Graduated from Saint-Cyr in 1827. During the Crimean War, he distinguished himself at the battle of Malakoff. Marshal of France before Magenta. President of the Republic from 1873 to 1879. Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour.
Autograph letter signed dated 23.01.1858 :"… je pense qu'à son retour il s'occupera enfin du tableau auquel vous vous intéressez. Je pense donc que jusqu'à cette époque il n'y a rien à faire à ce sujet…".
