HISTORY - MONTALEMBERT Charles de (1810 - 1870) - Autograph letter signed

Publicist, historian and philosopher, he was above all a great orator. A peer of France in 1831, he was unable to take his seat until 1835 due to his age; he was a member of the Constituent Assembly and the Legislative Assembly, then of the Legislative Body under the Empire. He defended the freedom of the press from the rostrum. French Academy 1851.
Autograph letter signed and dated La Roche en Breny, 07.01.1863 to a colleague: "…car je suis convaincu que nous commettrions une grande faute en vous préférant un candidat purement littéraire…".
