Lot 291 · The Langer Collection · 29 April 2024
A politician, philosopher, historian and socialist theorist, he was one of the great figures of French socialism. From 1893 until his death he was deputy for Carmaux. In 1904, he founded L'Humanité. Opposed to the colonial policy that led to war, he was assassinated while preparing a campaign for peace.
Autograph letter signed "Jaurès" to Mr ... Paris, September 22. 1 p. in-8°, in print head. of the Chamber of Deputies. Beautiful piece.
He asked his correspondent to send to the historian Mathiez, then a professor at the Caen high school, the three published volumes of his Socialist History (The Revolution) and added signed paper. "... Il doit faire un rapport dans la Revue critique (souligné)".
