HISTORY - DESCHANEL Emile (1819 - 1904) - Autograph letter signed

Among his many writings, the most famous are: Etudes sur Aristophane and Le Romantisme des Classiques. His Catholicism et Socialisme angered Louis-Napoléon (later Napoléon III) and he was forced into exile in Belgium from 1851 to 1859. Elected member of parliament in 1876, professor at the Collège de France and senator in 1881.
Autograph letter signed and dated Paris, 21.07.1871 to his editor: "Il est absolument inexact que je me porte ou me laisse porter dans aucun quartier pour les élections du 23 …".
