Socialist, author of a theory on the organisation of work based on the right of everyone to work. A member of the government in February 1848, he chaired the Luxembourg commission. The failure of his theories made him unpopular and he was exiled in 1850. After 1870, he was a deputy for the Seine in the National Assembly.
Autograph letter signed and dated to Paul Langer Senior, 18.10.1874 : "Je vous remercie de l'indication que vous m'avez donnée…".
