HISTORY - DUCHENE Denis Auguste (1862 - 1950) - Typed letter signed

Studied at the Ecole Spéciale Militaire de Saint Cyr, followed by a classic career as an infantry officer. In 1914, he was appointed Chief of Staff of the 20th Army Corps. Commander of the Legion of Honour. Authoritarian and hot-tempered, he was feared by his subordinates and disliked by his men. In 1918, an unfortunate defensive decision ruined his career. He was placed in reserve in 1924.
