He embarked on a career in arms at an early age at the Ecole Militaire de Brienne. In 1805, he was a captain in the General Staff of the Grande Armée. In 1810 he was attached to the Emperor.
Document signed 'Montholon' twice, Paris, March 10, 1827 and February 24, 1829, 2 pp. in folio. Interesting document relating to the succession of the Emperor Napoleon. Montholon transfers to the banker Pierre Laffitte 195 shares of the company of the new Poissonnière district, in reimbursement of the sums he received from the estate of the late Emperor Napoleon, such are stated in the two acts under private signatures made between Montholon and the Duke of Bassano. In the second part of the document, dated 1829, Montholon recognizes Laffitte's right to exchange the shares for land. Included: Duke of Bassano (Dijon, 01.05.1763 - Paris, 13.05.1839). At the start of the Revolution, he was a journalist. In 1792, he joined the diplomatic service. He became Napoleon's secretary after his return from Egypt. Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour.
