After taking part in the Seven Years' War, he was elected deputy of the nobility. As a lieutenant-general, he defended Thionville, then led the Federalists of Normandy, where he was defeated and proscribed.
Autograph letter signed Paris, dated 03.05.1791 :"…c'est la faute du curé, mais je ne sache pas non plus que la loi ait donné un protocole…".
