He served as a captain in the Seven Years' War and as a colonel in the American War of Independence. Elected general in 1789, he served during the French Revolution and in 1792 captured Frankfurt and Mainz. His mistakes in the 1793 campaign led to him being accused of treason and guillotined.
Document concerning le Comte de Rurange, colonel des chasseurs à cheval de Picardie. Signed with three autograph words and dated Metz, 08.04.1789: "…de vouloir bien accorder une prolongation de congé…”.
