A graduate of Saint Cyr, he was appointed assistant professor at the Ecole de guerre. During the First World War, he was appointed Brigadier General. He distinguished himself by his prudence and his concern to spare human lives. The victor of Verdun, he was promoted to Marshal of France in 1918. In 1940, he obtained full powers from the National Assembly. He chose to pursue a policy of collaboration with Hitler. In 1944, he was taken by the Germans and returned to the French. He was tried in 1945, sentenced to death, pardoned and interned on the Ile d'Yeu. Printed song “On les aura” with autograph lines, signature and date 21.03.1925, with drawing of a spiked helmet. Signed: “Mal Pétain”.
