HISTORY - JOFFRE Joseph (1852 - 1931) - Signed reception card

He first came to prominence during the defence of Paris in 1870, then distinguished himself in Tonkin, Sudan and Madagascar. Appointed commander-in-chief of the northern and north-eastern armies, he won the victory at the Marne. He was made Marshal of France in 1916.
