HISTORY - GALLIENI Joseph Simon (1849 - 1916) - Autograph card signed

He led several colonial expeditions in Africa and in 1896 was appointed Governor General of Madagascar. He was the first to apply on a large scale the method of pacifying conquered territories that later made Lyautey famous. He was posthumously conferred the dignity of Marshal of France.
