HISTORY - BAZAINE Achille (1811 - 1888) - Autograph dedication signed

Uneducated, after failing the entrance exam to the Ecole Polytechnique, he joined the army and gradually rose through the ranks to become Marshal of France. He is famous for having failed as Commander-in-Chief of the Army of the Rhine during the 1870 war. He died in poverty in Spain.
