He took part in most of the campaigns of the Revolution and Empire. He distinguished himself at Wagram in 1809, Fuentes de Onoro in 1811 and Russia in 1813. During the Hundred Days, he contributed to the victory at Ligny in 1815. Minister of War and Marshal of France, he led the siege of Antwerp in 1832.
Autograph letter signed and dated 24.05.1839 to the “Directeur Général des impositions indirectes”. He adds his recommendation to those of the representatives of the Meuse region, his compatriots, in favour of Director Martin: "…une occasion qui pourrait vous permettre de lui accorder de l'avancement, la demande vous a de même été faite par plusieurs députés de la Meuse…”.
