A difficult childhood, he wanted to be a painter and left for Rome. Returning to France in 1792, he joined the chasseurs and pursued a military career. The coup d'etat made him a Conseiller d'Etat in 1800, a task he performed with brio. After the coronation, he took on the role of governor of strongholds (Barcelona, Duhesme, etc.). Grand Cross of the Legion of Honor. He took part in the Russian campaign, where he was made Marshal of the Empire. After the abdication, he rallied to the Bourbons, who made him Peer de France.
Letter signed dated Paris, 18.11.1827 to the Duc de Polignac. He had taken into consideration the recommendation of the Duke of Polignac in favour of Mr Dulac de la Tour, who was applying for the Legion of Honour, and that he had been informed of the application made by Mr Dulac de la Tour. He must warn his correspondent:"…le roi (Louis XVIII) a suspendu pour le moment toute nomination dans la légion d'honneur…"
