He began his career under the ancien régime. He took part with La Fayette in the American War of Independence. He became one of the most brilliant generals of the Revolution and Empire, and was made Marshal of the Empire in 1804. Grand Cross of the Legion of Honor. He was Governor of the Invalides under Louis-Philippe.
Document signed "Jourdan" as Marshal Governor, Besançon, July 6, 1815, 3/4 p. in folio. Beautiful piece Order placed at the very beginning of the second Restoration.
