(Tito Schipa) Marina Fedorovna Chaliapin (Moscow, 1912 - Rome, 2009)Dark brownautograph copies of around 140 letters in French and English, dated between 1931 and 1933, mostly signed “Amarilli”, sent by Marina Chaliapin, daughter of the Russian bass singer Feodor (1873 - 1938) and by Maria Petsold, his second wife to the Italian tenor Tito Schipa (1888 - 1965). While studying at the American Academy of Interior Design in Paris, she meet the Italian tenor Tito Schipa in Paris, with whom she falls madly in love. Their relationship goes on for two years, and the two meet mostly in Paris and Rome, where Marina often works at Cinecittà studios and attends some of Schipa’s recitals. Their love will end in 1933 and in 1936 Marina will marry Luigi Freddi (1895 - 1977), journalist and politician, creator of the Cinecittà studios (of which he became a director) and the Centro sperimentale di cinematografia film school. Attached to the book: photographic portrait with a three bars autograph musical quotation signed by Tito Schipa, with words from the madrigal “Amarilli, mia bella” by Giulio Caccini (1551-1618).Photograph by Lumière in New York ; three photographs depicting Liana and Elena Schipa, the two daughters of the tenor, and a third with a picture of Schipa’s Memorial in Lecce. Many newspaper clippings with reviews of operas with Schipa performing ; one autographletter and a typed letter not signed by Marina Chaliapin ; two tickets for a Schipa’s recital at Salle Pleyel on the 12th of May 1931. 156 written pages in total.
