Richard Wagner (Leipzig, 1813 - Venice, 1883)Autograph letter signed (Rich. Wagner), dated Villa d'Angri, Posillipo, Naples July 16, 1880, without addressee (but to Carl Voltz, his agent in Wiesbaden). Beautiful and interesting letter written by the famous musician less than three years from his death. Wagner went to Italy at the beginning of the year to enjoy the better climate and to find inspiration for staging his opera "Parsifal" (the opera was outlined in 1877 and completed in the musical part in 1879, but after a long preparation it was performed for the first time only in 1882). Addressed to Voltz, pleased that even his early works continue to be requested and thriving. He expresses his wish for a success also in Paris. Despite the failure of the premiere of "Tannhäuser" in Paris in 1861, Wagner still wanted his operas to be performed in the French capital. He communicates that until October the recipient's letters will still find him at the same address and he informs that he will return in December to his winter quarters in Upper Franconia. 1 p. In-8°. In German.
