Tullio Serafin (Cavarzere, 1878 - Rome, 1968)Autograph letter signed, dated Turin, October 29, 1934, by the acclaimed conductor, passionate interpreter of the 19th-century melodramatic repertoire. To "Caro Maestro” [Guido Guerrini]. An interesting letter in which he describes the singers he would choose for the performance of Guerrini’s opera (it refers certainly to "La Vigna" by Testoni and Guerrini, performed in Rome in 1935). He has found a singer who should play "la moglie del vecchio" — it should be Scavizzi who withdrawn herself for a while because of her marriage but intends to return to stage. She is "una bellissima donna ed un'artista navigata”. For the second female role he considers Bruna Dragoni, while in his opinion the tenor should be Marcato who, having previously sung in the operetta "deve essere disinvolto". He continues: "II buffo sarà Baccaloni (...) il mezzo soprano, la Sani”, while the baritone must still be decided and it should be "un artista intelligente che abbia spirito ed autorità scenica". He is considering Rossi-Morelli who, despite being engaged in "parti truci" generally, is also excellent in the brilliant ones. Regardless, he asks Guerrini to let him know the part and have him do "qualche assaggio" before committing him. Decisions must be made with a certain urgency, and then he willturn his attention to the scenery and costumes. 5 pp. In-8°, on 3 sheets of the Palace Hotel Turin letterhead.
