Edward Bulwer-Lytton (London 1803 - Torquai 1873)1st Baron Lytton was an English novelist, poet, playwright and politician, best known for his extremely popular best-selling novels; he also coined many popular phrases that we still used today such as "the great unwashed", "pursuit of the almightly dollar", dweller on the threshold", "the pen is mightier than the sword", and the opening line "it was a dark and stormy night".
