Luigi Dallapiccola (Pisino, 1904 - Florence, 1975)Autograph letter signed, dated September 4, 1937, addressed to a Maestro. A personal letter in which the Istrian composer speaks about himself and his work: "Un agosto infame, tutto grigiore acqua e temporali". The weather increased his nervousness and reduced his ability to work, which he continued only "per senso del dovere". Dallapiccola – who had been a complementary piano teacher at the Florence Conservatory since 1934 – has received a new job offer from Mrs. Ojetti, but found himself obliged not to accept it: "Mi sarei trovato a dover seguire per anni ancora un metodo di lavoro troppo lontano dal mio pensiero e dalle mie aspirazioni; mi sarei creato un altro cumulo di nemici (...) Per fuggire di fronte alle Sonatine di Clementi sarei caduto in un fossato (...) a tutto ciò si deve aggiungere che, dal punto di vista economico, non avrei avuto alcun vantaggio". The musician then speaks of a recent inspection that his piano class underwent and fears that the outcome may cause him trouble: "E temo quindi che alla fine di settembre mi vedrò tagliati i viveri".
