Henry John Temple Viscount Palmerston (Westminster, 1784 - Brocket Hall, 1865)Beautiful autograph letter signed and dated Frankfurt 19. Oct. 1844 by the third Earl of Palmerston, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (1855-1858; 1859-1865). Palmerston addresses Baron Philipp von Neumann (1781-1851): "...accept the sincere congratulations of myself and Lady Palmerston upon your approaching marriage (…) you have been so long in England that your old friends, among whom I trust you will always reckon us, consider you almost half an Englishman, and your connection with one of our first and most distinguished families will still more entitle us so to regard you...". In December 1829, he negotiated the trade treaty between Austria and Great Britain. In recognition of his services, he was made a baron by Emperor Franz I of Austria on August 31, 1830. In 1844, Neumann was Minister Plenipotentiary and Special Delegate of Austria to the United Kingdom. He was later appointed Austria's representative in Florence (1845) and then in Brussels (December 31, 1849). 1 p. ½. With wax seal.
