Vincenzo Bellini (Catania, 1801 - Puteaux, 1835)Autograph letter signed (Bellini), dated Milan, February 15, 1829, by the famous Italian composer, to Felice Romani (a renowned librettist). Letter of exceptional importance, written by Bellini the day after the premiere of "La Staniera" (Milan, La Scala, February 14, 1829). After the success of "Il Pirata" at La Scala in 1827, Bellini anxiously awaited the outcome of his new work, which could have reaffirmed his fame. "La Straniera" was an enormous success, and the composer expresses his joy in the letter: "'La Straniera' ha sorpassato 'Il Pirata' (...) tutti i pezzi, senza eccezione, sono stati applauditi. La Lalande, Tamburini e Reina hanno cantato da Angioli: Tamburini è il Pirata della Straniera". He describes the enthusiasm of the Milanese public: "io sono sortito fuori dal palco sette volte". He confides that the success has exceeded his expectations and praises the libretto: "Il libro è d'una poesia, e d'un effetto di colpi di scena, da non potersi ideare di più (...) Tutte le Signore sventolavano i loro fazzoletti pel giubiIo". However, Bellini fears becoming too proud: "Questa lettera bruciatela, perché non conviene oltre di dettagliarvi i nostri trionfi...". Notwithstanding this expression of modesty, he concludes the letter by stating confidently: "Siatemi sempre lo stesso, che batteremo una carriera troppo luminosa". The letter was partially published in F. Abbiati, La Scala, Opera Review, n. 5, March 15, 1950. 2 pp. In-8°, with autograph address and a small tear on the margin from the seal opening, resulting in losing three letters at the end of a word.
