Description

Autograph letter signed, dated “Paris le 28 Sept. 1903” by the French chemist and pharmacist, awarded with the 1906 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his work in isolating fluorine from its compounds. Moissan contributed also to the development of the electric arc furnace, which opened several paths to developing and preparing new compounds, [and attempted to use pressure to produce synthetic diamonds, from the more common form of carbon. He was one of the original members of the International Atomic Weights Committee. Scientific letter addressed to a collaborator: “…Les dynamos de la Sorbonne ne sont pas encore en état de marcher. Il faut attendre une quinzaine et je vous préviendrai aussitôt qu’il sera possible de faire votre experience. 2K de minerai en poudre grossière sont suffisants…”. 1 p. With letterhead “Faculté des Sciences de Paris/Laboratoire de Chimie générale”. Rare.
